Upbeat Scholarship

At Potomac Music, we believe that music changes lives and we strive to make lessons available to those who may otherwise not have access to it.

About The Upbeat Scholarship

Potomac Music is fortunate to be a part of a warm, generous community here in Lorton, Virginia. One of our dear clients, Petra Casipit passed away in December 2021. Petra was an amateur cellist, music lover, and promoter of the performing arts. Prior to her passing, we talked together about her dedication to her music studies and the importance of giving learning opportunities to those in financial need.

Together with her family, friends, and colleagues, Potomac Music has established a scholarship in Petra’s honor for students who would like to learn music with us but may not have the financial means to do so. Petra chose the name “Upbeat,” which is a delightful play on musical terms and captures the spirit of the scholarship.

Students ages 7 – 18 are eligible to apply for the one year, renewable scholarship. The scholarship provides one year of one-on-one music lessons at Potomac Music with one of our professional instructors. The scholarship also includes one rental instrument and instructional materials if applicable.

The 2024 Upbeat Scholarship will be accepting applications now through February 22nd, 2024. Winners will be announced on March 1st.

We are no longer accepting applications for the 2024 season.

We will announce when a winner has been chosen shortly.
