Got more questions?

How much do lessons cost?

Your first 30-minute private lesson at Potomac Music is just $35 (for first time clients). Lesson tuition after that is payable monthly for weekly recurring lessons. Monthly tuition varies by instructor between $156 – $195. One-on-one lessons are also available in 45-minute and 60-minute sessions. Clients will be charged the adjusted rate for the extended lesson time.

For clients seeking flexible scheduling, we do offer drop-in lessons! ALL drop-in lessons are billed at $48.00/30 minute lesson. Lessons are also available in 45-minute and 60-minute intervals.

Recurring lessons are scheduled once per week at the same time with that same instructor. Drop-in lessons are flexible and can be scheduled when it’s convenient for you.

How often do classes occur?

Our classes meet each week at the same/day and time.

How do I pay?

You’ll be charged at the time of booking your first lesson with us. Once you confirm your enrollment choice (recurring or drop-in lessons) we’ll set up automatic payments. You’ll have access to your client account to view and update your schedule and payment method as needed.

How many children are in each class?

Typically we have 8 children in each class.

Where do I get music?

Your teacher and our amazing staff will help you find exactly what you need for lessons! Please refer to the information card you receive at your first lesson. We do have limited photocopies available as needed.

Do I have to stay with my child throughout class?

For Levels 1, 2, and our Saturday Mixed Ages classes, YES! A caregiver must be with their child throughout class. Caregivers also must attend playdates and Musical Storytime. Levels 3, 4, and Kindermusik Musicians are DROP OFF classes. Thursday MIXED AGES is also a DROP OFF class.

Where do I get an instrument?

Potomac Music offers instrument rentals for all band and orchestra instruments as well as full sized guitars. Other instruments (such as piano) need to purchased elsewhere. Please ask us to help! We can help you find exactly what you need.

What if I am not musical? Do I have to sing?

Singing is optional and not required for caregivers or your child. No musical skills are required. Kindermusik is a "come as you are" learning environment that encourages PROCESS over performance.

How do group classes work?

Group classes are a great way to enrich your child’s learning and supplement school groups. Group classes have a set tuition rate based on the number of classes and enrollment is based on skill level. Space is limited and classes do fill quickly. We can help you find the appropriate class for your child, and we also offer programs for adults! Email us at lessons@potomacmusic.com for our recommendation!

What if we need to miss our Kindermusik class?

We offer unlimited make-up classes while you have an active enrollment.

Can I make up lessons?

We have important updates to our MAKE-UP policy. Consistent attendance is the most important component of learning and progression. Please know that we want you to get the lessons you paid for, and offer make-up options as outlined below if you or your student are unable to attend.

Private lesson clients are granted SIX make-up lessons per year from the date of enrollment. Make-up lessons are scheduled at the teacher’s discretion and are subject to availability.

Clients may use their six makeup lessons throughout the year. Any additional missed lessons will NOT be made up.

*If you do NOT notify our front desk of your absence prior to the start of the lesson time, the lesson will NOT be eligible for a makeup.** NO EXCEPTIONS. You can notify us by calling us at 703.600.9590 or by emailing us at lessons@potomacmusic.com.

We do not offer make-up lessons for make-up lessons. Please stay home if you are sick! This includes having covid & flu symptoms, or vomiting within 24 hours before your lesson. If you are too sick to go to work or school, you are too sick to come to your lesson.
