Lian Qiao
Lian Qiao is a distinguished cellist and dedicated educator with a comprehensive background in performance, pedagogy, and arts administration. Currently completing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Cello Performance at The Catholic University of America, Lian brings a wealth of experience from the world’s leading music institutions to the classroom.
Her teaching philosophy is built on a strong foundation of academic training, including a Performers’ Certificate from SUNY Purchase, an Artist Diploma in Chamber Music and Cello Performance from Duquesne University, a Master of Music from Syracuse University, and a Bachelor of Music from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. This extensive training is complemented by specialized pedagogical study from the Balance Arts Center’s Performing Artist Teacher Training program.
Lian possesses significant and varied teaching experience. She has served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for Ear Training and Music Theory at The Catholic University of America under Dr. Andrew Earle Simpson and Dr. Juan Megua, and for Musicianship and String Techniques at Duquesne and Syracuse Universities. Her responsibilities have encompassed leading class and lab sessions, grading, providing one-on-one instruction, and coaching chamber music. For over a decade, she has maintained an active private studio, teaching cello, violin, and viola to students of all ages, while also serving as a youth orchestra coach. Lian has further demonstrated her pedagogical leadership as the Founder and Director of The Eastern Cello Boot Camp, where she designs curriculum and teaches masterclasses in technique, theory, and chamber music.
As an active performer, Lian’s distinguished career directly informs her teaching. She is a multi-time Grand Award winner of the Apex International Music Competition, both as a soloist and chamber musician, and has performed solo recitals and as a featured soloist with orchestras across the United States and China. Her extensive orchestral experience, including principal positions with the SUNY Purchase Symphony, Duquesne University Symphony, and Syracuse University Symphony orchestras, provides students with real-world insights into ensemble performance and professionalism.
Beyond the studio, Lian is a proven leader and innovator in arts education. She is the Founder and President of the International Asia-Pacific Artists Association and the Founder and Artistic Director of Udo Culture Media, through which she creates performance opportunities, organizes festivals, and fosters international cultural exchange for emerging musicians. She has also served as Music Executive Director for the Global Musician and Arts Association and as Orchestra Manager for the SUNY Purchase Symphony Orchestra, skills that translate to effective program management and student mentorship.
Lian Qiao is a dynamic educator who combines exemplary performance credentials with a deep commitment to fostering the next generation of musicians. Her holistic approach—integrating technical mastery, artistic expression, and career development—makes her an invaluable asset to any music faculty.
