Jack Penland is a double bassist originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is currently a graduate student at Shenandoah Conservatory, having received his undergraduate degree from there as well. He is an active freelance bassist in the greater DMV area, playing with groups such as the Piedmont Symphony Orchestra as well as the Blue Ridge Singers. He has also attended music festivals during the summer, traveling to Greensboro, North Carolina for Eastern Music Festival and Allentown, Pennsylvania for Amherst Early Music Festival. He has been playing bass since 8 years old, so as a teacher he is determined to find what makes bass playing enjoyable to each student.
