Local mezzo vocalist and collaborator, Kathryn Dobyns holds a Bachelor of Music from James Madison University where she studied music theatre with Dr. Carrie Stevens. Though trained classically, Kathryn applied her vocal training to additional genres including jazz, blues, rock and contemporary pop. Having been raised by a musically eclectic family, Kathryn has always valued the exploration of musical genres for a well rounded performance career.

Currently, Kathryn is a member of the U.S. Navy Band as an alto vocalist in the Sea Chanters Chorus. Performing with this group has offered her the chance to further develop her career, singing for our nation’s leaders and the national community. Her work alongside such talented musicians has been a blessing and constantly reminds her to never take the power of music for granted.

As a teacher, Kathryn seeks to empower young artists to find their voice in a safe and welcoming environment. Developing the voice and exploring the wonders of music should always be approached with joy and an eagerness to learn something new!
